The section was born in 1969, together with the Department of Engineering, however, it has important antecedents that are linked to the creation of the Faculty of Science and Engineering of the PUCP. It is in that period that it was decided to start with the specialty of Civil Engineering. Therefore, together with the faculty, we have more than 80 years of experience. The Civil Engineering section has 28 full-time professors, 87 part-time professors and 1 conventional part-time professor. These teachers are responsible for providing academic training to 1350 students (in the 2019-1 cycle).
The section also has five study areas: Structures, Hydraulics, Construction, Geotechnics and Transportation. In addition, it houses four laboratories that perform training, research and consulting functions. These are: the Laboratory of Research in the registration, diagnosis and conservation of heritage, the Laboratory of Soil Mechanics, the Hydraulics Laboratory, and the Laboratory of Anti-seismic Structures. In addition, Civil Engineering has equipment that provide adequate academic and research training, such as an earthquake simulator with a 4.4-meter platform, recently acquired equipment for triaxial soil testing, etc.
Finally, the research conducted can be carried out thanks to the exhaustive dedication of teachers and thanks to agreements with foreign universities and national entities. It is important to emphasize that in terms of high impact publications (SCOPUS and WOS), the section, in 2017, was the one that generated the most in the Department, being these 24. These types of publications analyze in depth various problems of the national reality and situation. On the other hand, we want to emphasize the presence of the teachers of the section in national and international congresses, through the presentation of research and its results.
