CITE Materials PUCP present at SITDEF Peru 2023

From May 18 to 21, CITE Materiales PUCP participated in the IX International Exhibition of Technologies for Defense and Disaster Prevention Peru 2023 (SITDEF), where it showcased its potential in the metalworking sector. The aim of PUCP's participation was to promote the services it offers and demonstrate its extensive experience in various areas.

"As CITE, our role is to be the support that the industry needs to achieve the highest quality standards and be on par with international companies. By providing product evaluation and consulting services, we can identify existing needs and fill the gaps to achieve their development."

Dr. José Sakihama, Director of CITE Materials PUCP

CITE Materials presented some representative teams from PUCP Engineering, including:

  • A 0.5-ton traction machine used to perform mechanical tests and determine the strength of different materials.
  • A videoscope used for non-destructive inspections of pipes and the evaluation of welds.
  • An optical microscope that allows the internal structure of materials to be evaluated and their behavior under different requirements to be explained.

The exhibition also included a bench displaying fracture surfaces, which showed examples of failure analyses carried out in the Materials Laboratory. These samples demonstrated the degree of specialization of CITE Materials and showcased the quality of the services provided by the institution.

The CITE Materiales stand was accompanied by the Tumi Robotics team, which presented four robots with different functions: a robot for cleaning ship hulls, a drone for ultrasound measurements, a catamaran, and a submarine for taking water quality samples.

Dr. Sakihama tells us that, thanks to CITE Materials' participation in SITDEF Peru 2023, PUCP's commitment to the "Naval Industry Reform" project was reinforced. This project is being promoted by the Peruvian Navy with the support of the Ministry of Production and the Ministry of Economy.

This participation continues to strengthen CITE Materiales PUCP's position as a benchmark in the metalworking sector and its commitment to innovation in the field of technology and research.
