A CIDE-PUCP team attended the "National Meeting of North and Latin America" organized by the IASP - International Association of Science Parks and Areas of Innovation in the city of Monterrey, Mexico. The main focus of the event was "Moving to the next level: STP (Science and Technology Parks) and AOI as economic drivers in their communities", aimed at all Innovation Centers in Latin America that seek to boost economic development in their entrepreneurship and innovation systems.
"Science and technology parks are the perfect instrument to boost economic growth and improve the welfare of their communities," mentioned Roger Guillén, head of projects at PUCP, who participated in the meeting along with Vanessa Herrera, CIDE-PUCP Communications Coordinator, and Kelly Ramírez, CIDE-PUCP project assistant.
Among the countries that participated in the event were Cuba, Mexico, Canada, Peru, among others. The event was inaugurated by Ebba Lund, CEO of the IASP; Carol Stewart, president of the North American Division of the IASP; Juan Pablo Suárez Chacón, president of the Latin American Division of the International IASP and Jose Alfredo Pérez, general director of the Institute of Innovation and Technology Transfer of Nuevo León and host of the event.

During the three-day event, the following topics were addressed:
Wednesday 19: The welcome cocktail and networking took place where all guests were able to establish a closer communication sharing value propositions and work philosophies. In addition, our team had the opportunity to visit the facilities of the Center for Innovation, Entrepreneurship TEC, belonging to the Tecnológico de Monterrey.
Thursday 20: The agenda was based on talks on driving innovation strategies and learning about the success stories of science parks in Brazil, Mexico, Canada and the United States. In addition to presentations on inspiring solutions, growth strategies and collaboration.
Friday 21: We visited PIIT, the first science park in Latin America, located in the city of Monterrey, Mexico, with an area of more than 110 hectares, 35 innovation centers and 1,000 scientists working in the center. Within its facilities are located internationally renowned companies such as Schneider Electric, PEPSICO, Tecnológico de Monterrey, among others.
Why Monterrey?
Its location allows it easy access to U.S. commercial land routes, as well as by air to the entire world. It is the center of great industrial knowledge and commercial manufacturing.
