With a little more than a year of uninterrupted work, the virtualization team of the Engineering Department has been mainly in charge of being the support in the development of educational tools for virtual courses. support in the development of educational tools for the teaching of courses in virtual mode. Its scope and contribution has not been limited to PUCP Engineering, but also to other academic departments of our university, such as Science and Humanities. This team, led by Ms. Jennifer Wong, has been in charge of generating its own audiovisual material, interactive tools, augmented reality applications and 360° tours, in order to contribute to distance education at PUCP.
Contribution of VEO 3D Room
As we know, at the beginning of last year, the integration of Sala VEO 3D into the Engineering Department was made official. With this entry, the contribution of the unit to the objectives of the virtualization team materialized more clearly, mainly in terms of management and development of digital manufacturing tools for the teaching of classes.
"In this new stage, we are providing training and facilitating distance education needs, in terms of course delivery tools, which are present during the transition to blended learning. Our target audience are lab managers, professors and teaching assistants," says Wong.
Production 2021
By the end of 2021, the team has contributed to distance education at PUCP with 109 videos of virtual classes; 16 interactive videos of questions and answers for online evaluation of students; 56 360° tours, where our students can virtually tour their laboratories and interact with them; 12 Web & AR applications and 33 3D models. All these tools have contributed to student learning in an era of confinement and distance learning.
Patricia Pórcel, a member of the virtualization team comments: "This has been an achievement generated by the team's dedication to the development of quality tools for the university. This has been an achievement generated by the team's dedication to the development of quality tools for the university. In addition, we have been able to provide services not only to the professors of the Engineering Department, but also to professors from other units of the university, strengthening ties with PUCP Engineering".
Looking ahead to 2022
This year, the objective is to provide the support needed by PUCP Engineering for the creation of new virtualization tools, aimed at blended and hybrid courses. On the other hand, we are already working on the development of training that will be useful for the delivery of blended classes. And a novelty for 2022 is to provide the necessary support for the development of Continuing Education courses in virtual blended mode.
Finally, given that virtualization is a topic that is constantly evolving and changing, Wong comments the following:
"The support we provide will change according to the needs of virtualization of hybrid courses. This is because virtualization was a forced change; however, it provided us with many opportunities for innovation, which also apply to teaching methodologies. Therefore, our support will be maintained while the performance of the new methodologies is being evaluated".
