Last Tuesday, June 18, we received the visit of Professor Salavat Aglyamov, in the framework of the collaboration between the University of Houston and PUCP, through the Biomedical Optics Laboratory (BOL-Houston) and the Biophotonics and Biomedical Optics Research Group (GIBIO-PUCP). Our Tenure Track faculty member Fernando Zvietcovich, director of the Biophotonics and Biomedical Optics Research Group, was in charge of the reception.

About Salavat Aglyamov

Prof. Aglyamov is an expert in biomedical elastography with over 5000 citations and an h-index of 43 (Source Google Scholar). He is an associate professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at UH and a member of the Biomedical Optics Laboratory. You can learn more about him here.

Visits and perceptions

The professor listened attentively to the research advances made by undergraduate and graduate students linked to the research project 'Development of the first coherent optical tomography system with elastography in Peru for the early detection of keratoconus and other ocular diseases', and was surprised by the progress made. The first prototype of the system was also shown.

Algyamov also visited ICOBA, Fabcore, CAM, Physics and Medical Imaging Laboratory. It should be noted that he was quite amazed by the equipment and facilities that PUCP has for research and teaching.

Feedback

Aglyamov was surprised by the rapid progress made in the area of biomedical optics by the GIBIO group. He is also interested in establishing agreements with the PUCP to allow undergraduate and graduate students from both institutions to do research internships.
