8 research projects from the Department of Engineering win ProCiencia competition in the category of Applied Research

The results of the ProCiencia call for proposals in the Applied Research category were announced, in which 8 research projects from our Department were the winners. These projects were selected among 83 eligible and 266 applicants.

The objective of this competition is to contribute to the increase of new scientific knowledge and technologies that respond to the needs of society and the productive sectors of the country.

The proposals were aligned to the following strategic areas: climate change adaptation and mitigation, valuation and sustainable use of biodiversity, circular economy, health, food security, renewable energies and information and communication technologies (ICTs).

1) Project: "Guidelines for adaptation to climate change in low-risk urban ecosystems and environmental improvement.

Led by: Sandra Santa Cruz

2) Project: "SmartConcrete - Embeddable IoT sensors for real-time monitoring and artificial intelligence-based prediction of mechanical properties of cast and 3D printed concrete".

Led by: Guido Silva

PUCP co-investigators: Luis Angelo Velarde, Rafael Aguilar, and student Omar Rojas. 

3) Project: "Manufacture of elastomeric energy generating devices from the shiringa (Hevea brasiliensis) of the Peruvian Amazon".

Led by: Omar Troncoso

4) Project: "Development of functional micro and nano additives for the food and cosmetic industry from cocoa residues".

Led by: Erick Alvarez

Co-researchers PUCP: Alfredo Ibañez and Fredy Huayta.

5) Project: "Development and validation of an advanced control system with artificial intelligence for a robotic ankle joint prototype based on parallel mechanisms".

Led by: Dante Elías

Co-investigators PUCP: Victoria Abarca and Jose Gustavo Garcia.

6) Project: Synthesis of alkyd resins with a higher renewable content by reusing grape seed and recycling plastic waste for coating applications.

Led by: Santiago Flores

Co-researchers PUCP: Antonella Hadzich and Daniel Obregon.

7) Project: Evaluation of spectral ultrasonic methods for the staging of hepatic steatosis in morbidly obese humans. 

Led by: Benjamín Castañeda

PUCP co-investigators: Roberto Lavarello and Kenneth Hoyt.                     

8) Integral processing of white, black and red quinoa grains using emerging technologies to obtain bioproducts with food and cosmetic applications.

Led by: Fiorella Cardenas
