The laboratory consists of two independent rooms, internally connected by a door.

Applied Mechanics Room

Its main activity is of the academic type where practical tests of certain courses are carried out with the participation of the students. It supports the Resistance of Materials 2 and Introduction to Machine Design courses of the Mechanical Engineering and Mechatronics Engineering specialties. In addition, it supports graduate work in the Mechanical Vibrations course, in the Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Occasionally, research is carried out. It has equipment to perform the following tests:

  • Compression and tensile spring testing.
  • Photoelasticity test of birefringent materials.
  • Testing of continuous beams, to measure reactions and deformations.
  • Testing of specimens to buckling.
  • Fatigue test of specimens subjected to rotary bending.
  • Shrink fit test, between shaft and hub.
  • Strange gage test to determine stresses.

Oleohydraulics and Pneumatics Room

The room is equipped with two Hydraulics modules and two Pneumatics modules, each module equipped with its pistons and different accessories necessary for the control and activation of the pistons.
Support is provided for undergraduate courses in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering and Industrial Engineering. In addition, support is provided for postgraduate courses, continuing education courses, diploma courses and research activities.
In Oleohydraulics, the objective is to study the functions and behavior of hydraulic systems with valves in simple or automated circuits for industrial hydraulics, mobile hydraulics and proportional hydraulics. In Pneumatics, the operation and behavior of each component and automation in a pneumatic circuit is observed.

Applied Mechanics Room

Beam testing equipment

Tabletop model beam tester allows students to investigate deflections and reactions in simply supported beams and cantilever beams.

Characteristics:

  • Make TQ Education and Training Ltd. Model SM1004.
  • Three simple supports with force sensors and one support for embedding.
  • Two displacement sensors.
  • Two sets of different weights.
  • A set of 10 test beams.

Column buckling test equipment

Test equipment that allows students to investigate the deflection and stability of columns (slender columns).

Characteristics:

  • TQ Education and Training Ltd., model SRT12.
  • Application of manual force.
  • Simple supports and embedded support.
  • Kit for force recording (500 N), interface for connection to data acquisition system and PC connection.
  • Five rectangular section aluminum alloy specimens 2 mm x 20 mm.

Hydraulic testing machine with hand pump

Hydraulic testing machine with manual pump THECNOVATE brand, for tensile, compression, bending, buckling and photo elasticity tests.

Test equipment for the study of vibrations

GUNT brand equipment.

Miscellaneous Equipment

On the left, TQ equipment for the study of girdle, gear and worm gear transmissions.
In the center at the back, a TQ kit for measuring with Strain gauges is observed.
To the right and in front, a TQ kit for the study of vibrations in transmission with a pair of gears (without defects and with defects) is observed.
In the back right corner, a variable gear ratio girdle transmission is observed.

Oleohydraulics and Pneumatics Room

Miscellaneous equipment

It has four didactic modules to simulate hydraulic and pneumatic circuits for industrial use and mobile hydraulics, with their respective accessories. This equipment allows complementing in a practical way the theory of the courses that develop these technologies. The simulations are carried out with manual and electric circuits and with programmable logic controllers; sensors are also used. It also has 10 software licenses for simulation.
